Bushbuckridge News (bushnews.co.za) — last updated August 2026

This policy explains what personal information Bushbuckridge News collects from visitors to bushnews.co.za, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Who this policy covers

Bushbuckridge News is published by [Company legal name], registration number [registration number], of [physical business address] ("we", "us"). We are the responsible party for the personal information described below.

Information we collect

We collect personal information directly from you in the following ways:

  • Newsletter sign-up. If you enter your email address to subscribe to Bushbuckridge News updates, we store that address against your subscription so we can send you news updates. We ask you to tick a consent box before subscribing, and we record the date and time you gave that consent. Every newsletter we send carries a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe by contacting us using the details below — we act on either immediately.
  • Site usage. Like most websites, our hosting and content-delivery providers automatically log standard technical information — IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps — for security and to keep the site running reliably. We do not currently use analytics or tracking cookies beyond this.

Cookies

We use one strictly-necessary cookie that remembers a site preview preference during development and has no effect on your visit to the live site. If we begin showing advertising through a network such as Google AdSense, that network may set its own cookies to personalize or measure ads — see "Advertising" below, which we will keep up to date if and when that starts.

Advertising

Bushbuckridge News may display advertising served by third-party networks, including Google AdSense. These networks may use cookies or similar technology to show ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ad Settings or via www.aboutads.info/choices.

Who we share information with

We use the following third parties to run Bushbuckridge News, each of whom processes data on our behalf:

  • Supabase (database and admin authentication)
  • Cloudflare (image storage and content delivery)
  • Vercel (website hosting)
  • Google AdSense, where advertising is enabled (see above)

We do not sell your personal information to anyone.

How long we keep it

We keep newsletter subscriber addresses for as long as your subscription is active. Technical logs are retained for a limited period for security purposes and then discarded.

Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

  • Ask us what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct or delete it
  • Object to how we use it, or withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from our newsletter)
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at enquiries@inforegulator.org.za if you believe we have handled your information unlawfully

Children

Bushbuckridge News is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
