ANCYL Limpopo Leader Fatally Shot in Kimberley
The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Limpopo has confirmed the tragic death of one of its Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) members, who was fatally shot on Tuesday while en route to the Northern Cape for the league’s National General Council (NGC) meeting.
nnnnThe victim has been identified as Nkateko Mbhoma, described by the ANCYL as “a committed young leader.” In a statement, the organisation expressed its “deep shock and sadness,” calling his killing “a senseless act of violence” that had robbed the movement of a dedicated servant of youth emancipation.
nnnnMbhoma was reportedly travelling through Leeudoringstad, near Klerksdorp, on his way to Kimberley for the council gathering when he was shot. Police in Kimberley have opened a case in connection with the incident.
nnnnThe ANCYL extended condolences to Mbhoma’s family, comrades and Limpopo structures, wishing them strength during this painful period. It further condemned the scourge of violent crime in South Africa and called on authorities to act urgently.
nnnn“Criminality has no place in our society, and we call on law enforcement agencies to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. Justice must prevail,” the statement read.
nnnnThe Youth League reiterated its commitment to building safer communities and protecting young leaders, concluding: “May the soul of Comrade Nkateko rest in eternal peace.”
