Bushbuckridge Mayor Donates Water Tanker and Gardening Equipment to Ntalo Old Age Home

Bushbuckridge Local Municipality Executive Mayor Cllr Lydia Matlanatso Moroane-Zitha visited Ntalo Old Age Home yesterday, 22 October 2026, to engage with senior citizens and hand over essential resources aimed at improving their well-being.

The courtesy visit was conducted in partnership with the Mnisi Traditional Authority and the Mpumalanga Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, Land and Environmental Affairs. The delegation included Ward Councillor Goodman Shabangu, Cllr Emeldah Mabunda of the Women’s Commission, and Cllr Asnath Mathebula.

Addressing the elderly residents, Mayor Moroane-Zitha encouraged them to know and protect their rights, particularly against individuals who attempt to defraud them of their social grants and other benefits.

She emphasised that senior citizens deserve protection, dignity and proper care, while also raising concerns about gender-based violence and the killing of women, which continue to affect communities across the country.

The visit culminated in the handover of a 10,000-litre water tanker, wheelbarrows, gardening tools, a water hose, a knapsack sprayer and vegetable seeds to support food production at the facility.

The seeds included onions, carrots, spinach and beetroot, with the initiative aimed at encouraging sustainable food production and improving access to fresh vegetables for the elderly residents.

The Executive Mayor expressed her hope that the donated resources would help the home establish a productive vegetable garden.

“On my return, I would like to eat vegetables from these seeds we are handing over with the Department of Agriculture,” she said.

The initiative forms part of efforts to strengthen support for vulnerable groups and promote partnerships that improve the living conditions of senior citizens.

Ntalo Old Age Home founder, Mrs Mokone, expressed her gratitude to the Executive Mayor and the delegation for the donations and continued support.

She appealed to the Mayor to maintain her visits to the facility, expressing hope that the relationship would continue to bring further assistance and benefits to the elderly residents.
