Couples Gather in Valencia for National Marriage Week Celebration

The Department of Social Development, Ehlanzeni District, brought couples from local municipalities together yesterday, 19 September 2026, at Valencia Community Hall for the National Marriage Week Celebration under the theme “Rooted in Love.”

The event focused on strengthening marriages and families, with discussions covering the importance of marriage, fathers’ involvement, spousal maintenance, property and title deeds, and the importance of having a valid will.

Representatives from the National Prosecuting Authority, Legal Aid South Africa, Deeds Office and the Family and Marriage Society of South Africa (FAMSA) provided couples with information on their legal rights, responsibilities and ways to protect their families and assets.

Ms Mduduzi Shongwe from the Department’s Families Programme encouraged couples to build strong families through love, commitment, communication, responsibility and proper planning.

She emphasised that strong marriages are built on shared values, mutual respect, open communication and a shared vision for the future.
