Court Protest Erupts Over Murder Accused

The Saselani community and residents from nearby villages gathered outside the Mhlala Magistrate Court in Thulamahashe earlier today(Monday 24 November), demanding that bail be denied for murder-accused businessman Sidwell Khoza, popularly known as Tshep Tshep.

Khoza, a well-known figure in Buyisonto with businesses including a tavern, bottle store, mortuary and taxi operations, stands accused of the brutal murders of Hlamariso Sambo (35) and Kenneth Nkuna (34).

Tensions were high as community members voiced their frustrations, calling for justice and expressing fear over safety should Khoza be released. Placards, chants and a strong turnout highlighted the community’s demand for accountability.

During today’s proceedings, the Magistrate presiding over the case made a formal request to recuse himself, citing reasons not disclosed publicly. The matter has now been postponed to 27 November, when further clarity on the recusal and bail application is expected.

According to information presented in court, the alleged motive behind the killings is linked to a dispute over the victims’ Road Accident Fund (RAF)payout — a development that has shocked and angered the community even further.
