Deputy Minister Mhaule Monitors 2026 Matric Exams in Mpumalanga

Deputy Minister of Basic Education Dr Reginah Mhaule visited Hazyview Comprehensive School in Mahushu on Tuesday 26 October 2026, to monitor the administration of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations.

The visit took place as the Class of 2026 sat for Mathematics Paper 2, Mathematical Literacy Paper 2 and Technical Mathematics Paper 2, with candidates across the country tackling the three-hour examinations.

The papers are an important part of the matric examination timetable, as mathematical skills play a significant role in opening doors to further education, career opportunities and skills development.

Dr Mhaule's visit formed part of the Department of Basic Education's national examination monitoring programme, which aims to ensure that examinations are conducted smoothly and in accordance with the required standards.

During the visit, the Deputy Minister acknowledged the pressure learners face during the final examinations and encouraged them to remain calm, trust their preparation and approach each paper with confidence.

She also urged learners and educators to take the necessary precautions amid high temperatures and adverse weather conditions affecting parts of the country.

The Deputy Minister further highlighted the importance of learner wellbeing and psychosocial support during the examination period, noting that academic pressure, environmental challenges and personal circumstances can contribute to anxiety, stress and emotional exhaustion.

Learners experiencing emotional distress or examination-related anxiety were encouraged to seek support from their educators, school-based support teams and district psychosocial support services.

As the matric examinations continue, the Department of Basic Education is working with schools and communities to ensure a supportive learning environment that enables candidates to perform to the best of their abilities.
