Eight killed, including two minors, in horrific head-on crash on N17

Eight people, including two minors, were killed in a devastating head-on collision on the N17 toll road between Ermelo and Davel in Mpumalanga early on Sunday morning.
The crash occurred at approximately 01:30 near the Ermelo Toll Plaza and involved a Toyota sedan and a Volkswagen sedan.
Seven of the deceased were occupants of the Volkswagen, while the eighth victim was the sole occupant and driver of the Toyota. Six adults and two minors lost their lives in the collision. No other injuries were reported.
The exact circumstances surrounding the crash remain unclear. Police investigations are underway, while reckless or negligent driving has not been ruled out as a possible contributing factor.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie, urged motorists to exercise extreme caution and obey the rules of the road.
“Motorists must obey the rules of the road and adjust their driving in line with prevailing weather and road conditions. Greater vigilance is a must, especially when visibility is affected,” Macie said.
Macie also conveyed his condolences to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives in the crash.
