MEC MACIE ENGAGES TRAFFIC OFFICERS IN EHLANZENI

Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC Jackie Macie met with Traffic Law Enforcement officers in the Ehlanzeni Region to discuss operational challenges and reinforce professionalism.

Macie urged officers to issue accurate traffic notices, maintain proper conduct and enforce the law without fear or favour. He also warned officers against accepting bribes and urged them to live within their means.

The MEC acknowledged challenges including shortages of vehicles, uniforms, office space and breathalysers. He assured officers that additional vehicles would be added to strengthen operations.

Macie said Ehlanzeni faces increased traffic enforcement demands due to its proximity to the Maputo Corridor, with further pressure expected as upgrades at the Lebombo Border Post begin in 2027.

He urged officers to step up enforcement ahead of the festive season, saying consistent enforcement would improve compliance and contribute to reducing road crashes.

The engagement in Mbombela followed a similar meeting with Bushbuckridge traffic officers. Further engagements are planned for Nkangala and Gert Sibande.

Macie was accompanied by Chief Director for Transport Regulation Sibandiso Nkuna and other departmental officials.
