MEGA Responds to Floods Affecting Mpumalanga Economy

The Mpumalanga Economic Growth Agency (MEGA) has expressed deep concern for residents, families, and businesses affected by the recent severe floods across the province.

The extreme weather has damaged key infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and transport routes, disrupting trade and supply chains for agriculture, retail, and industry. Hundreds of kilometres of road networks are affected, temporarily blocking access to important markets and slowing economic activity. Homes, businesses, and public facilities have also suffered significant damage.

MEGA CEO Isaac Mahlangu said the agency is committed to supporting recovery efforts, including restoring infrastructure, market access, and affected enterprises. He emphasised collaboration with government, private sector partners, and communities to minimise long-term economic impacts.

MEGA acknowledged President Cyril Ramaphosa’s visit to Nkomazi, highlighting national support for recovery, and praised disaster management teams and volunteers for their tireless efforts. Mahlangu urged stakeholders to focus on safety, resilience, and rebuilding, noting that together the province’s economy can be restored in a sustainable and inclusive manner.
