Premier Ndlovu Strengthens Collaboration with PSL
Mpumalanga Premier Mandla Ndlovu met Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Dr. Irvin Khoza in Johannesburg on January 7 to enhance cooperation between the league and the provincial government.
nnnnThe initiative aligns with the seventh administration's priorities to drive inclusive growth, create jobs, and tackle poverty and the high cost of living. Ndlovu emphasized the province's passion for sports and social events, citing the Kaizer Chiefs-TS Galaxy match, which drew over 20,000 spectators to Mbombela Stadium, as well as the success of events like the Nedbank Cup final and the Metro FM Music Awards at the same venue.
nnnnThe premier proposed a grant plan highlighting the benefits of hosting major games at Mbombela Stadium, aiming to boost local tourism and economic growth. Ndlovu also underlined Mpumalanga’s commitment to sports development through financial support for TS Galaxy, the province’s only PSL team, and the construction of a high-altitude sports facility in eMakhazeni.
nnnnKhoza welcomed the collaboration and expressed interest in exploring opportunities to work with the provincial government.
nnnnMpumalanga’s status as a tourist destination, with its natural beauty and high-class accommodations, further complements its sporting ambitions by offering visitors a post-match retreat, contributing to local economic growth.
nnnnNdlovu was accompanied by MECs Leah Mabuza and Jacky Macie, Mbombela Executive Mayor Sibongile Makushe-Mazibuko, acting Director General Peter Nyoni, and senior managers.
