A high-level meeting focusing on border security, illegal mining and criminal networks affecting Mpumalanga took place yesterday, 16 September 2026.

The meeting was held with the Chief of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), acting under the directive of Commander-in-Chief and President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Discussions centred on establishing a coordinated framework through which the SANDF and other relevant stakeholders will respond to critical challenges affecting the province, including activities along the borders, illegal mining and criminal networks.

The engagements also considered the impact of these challenges on communities and the provincial economy.

A comprehensive statement providing further details on the outcomes and discussions of the meeting is expected to be released by the communication team.
