The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) and Postbank have urged social grant beneficiaries to replace their gold Sassa cards with the new black Postbank cards by February 28.

Sassa spokesperson Paseka Letsatsi warned that gold Sassa cards will stop working after this date, regardless of the expiry date printed on them.

“The grant payments in the week of February 4 to 5 were the last to be made with gold cards. Beneficiaries must visit their nearest Postbank site—located at major retailers like Checkers, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Usave, and Boxer—to collect their black Postbank card,” said Letsatsi.

The new Postbank card can be used at ATMs, retailer point-of-sale machines, and anywhere that accepts a bank card. It also offers benefits such as one free card replacement per year, three free in-store withdrawals per month, and one free monthly statement over the counter.

To collect the new card, beneficiaries must bring a valid South African ID or temporary ID, as no card will be issued without it.
