Second Arrest in Pienaar Mass Shooting Case

A 43-year-old man suspected to be involved in the killing of eight people in Pienaar was arrested in Mbombela on January 14.

During the arrest, police confiscated three pistols, although none had ammunition. The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

In a related development, Bongani Patrick Nkosi (39), another suspect in the Pienaar shooting, appeared in the KaBokweni Magistrate’s Court on January 12. His case was postponed to January 21 for a formal bail application, and he remains in custody.

The shooting occurred next to a tavern on January 11, leaving six people, including a woman, dead at the scene. Two others succumbed to their injuries in the hospital.

Three victims remain hospitalized, while one has been discharged. The victims were aged between 19 and 45.
