Stray Elephants Safely Returned to Mozambique
The Mpumalanga Tourism and Parks Agency (MTPA) has confirmed that four young bull elephants that wandered from Mozambique into South Africa have been safely herded back.
nnnnMTPA spokesperson Simphiwe Shungube told the Media that the elephants were spotted on March 5 in sugarcane farms near Komatipoort.
nnnn"After receiving the information, our team rushed to the scene to assess and monitor the situation. Our stakeholders from Hoedspruit assisted in ensuring these animals were herded back to Mozambique," said Shungube.
nnnn"We want to emphasize that they were vagrant elephants, and we are pleased they returned safely without harm. They were herded back today (Thursday, March 6)," he added.
nnnnJust over a year ago, an elephant was attacked by residents in Matsulu, killed, and butchered for its meat.
