Suspected Serial Rapist Caught in Emalahleni
A 39-year-old man accused of terrorising minors aged seven to 13 has been arrested following a detailed investigation by the South African Police Service's specialised Family Violence Unit.
nnnnPolice spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane stated the suspect allegedly drove around Emalahleni in a vehicle, targeting children. The perpetrator would reportedly lure victims by sending them to a tuck shop, separating them from others, before abducting and assaulting them.
nnnnThe man is suspected to be linked to at least 10 reported cases of rape and kidnapping across Emalahleni, Vosman, and Mhluzi between 2023 and 2024.
nnnnHe was arrested while attending court in Vosman for a separate case involving assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) in a gender-based violence incident.
nnnnThe suspect is scheduled to appear in the Emalahleni Magistrate’s Court on January 20.
nnnnActing police commissioner Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi commended the investigative team for their work. “We are confident the detectives and prosecutors will build a watertight case to secure a conviction and deliver justice for the victims,” he said.
nnnnAuthorities continue to urge the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to safeguard vulnerable members of the community.
